The Club of Puerto Rico of New Orleans was founded in 1960 by a
small group of Puerto Ricans who established themselves in New
Orleans at the beginning of the 1950s.
The preservation of Puerto Rican traditions, cultural values, and
the Spanish language among its residents and their descendants
was the main goal of the group.
The membership of the club, a non-profit organization, has
contributed greatly to the Hispanic community of New Orleans for
the last forty-four years.
In the past the club has brought to New Orleans some of the best
artists from Puerto Rico.
In 1995 the local Spanish newspaper, "Aqui
New Orleans", awarded the club one of its prestigious awards, Premio Aplauso, for the "most excellent club that has maintained
its traditions and cultural heritage since its establishment."
